10 New Gadgets as Office Tools

These are ten new gadgets that any modern office should really consider having. They are better used in an independent office that has a door, but many of them can be used in a cubicle. The list is a nice mix of tools to help with your productive, tools to help you do your job and tools that will increase or maintain your office security. There is even a gadget that will help you save money on your power bills.

1 – A strong box that screws under your desk

They have added the simplest additions to a strong box by adding holes to the top of the box. A lockable strong box will be made of metal, it will have hinges at the back and a lock at the front that locks the box shut. The biggest design flaw with these boxes is that they can be stolen if they are found, so to fix this problem you can screw it under your desk where it is hidden. Even if people to find it they will have to remove it before being able to steal it. If you are feeling like a saving a few dollars, you could buy a run of the mill strong box for $25 and drill holes through the top so that you can screw it under your desk.

2 – A programmable power strip

Offices are full of power strips since there are rarely enough sockets to accommodate every item in the office. With a programmable power strip, you can have each socket on the strip turn itself off at a certain time. For example the socket on the strip that has the fans plugged in could have them switch off automatically at 5pm and restart again at 11:30am. Televisions and monitors that are left on standby could turn off automatically when the office closes. It is now a known fact that the trickle of energy spent on stand-by modes costs US business an unspeakable amount each year.

3 – A solar powered wireless keyboard

Probably not the most advance piece of technology on the market, since many of them are unreliable. However, the new solar powered ones are proving quite reliable for people who have an office. The battery is pretty much fully charged throughout the day so that there are fewer breaks in the wireless signal. They are also a savior from the annoyance of the battery going on your keyboard. Anyone who has ever owned a wireless keyboard will tell you that the battery being dead is not annoying, but the process of the battery dying, pressing a key three times so that it will work, is the most annoying part. The solar powered wireless keyboard will save you from this aggravation.

4 – A mini camera

Set this up inside your office to see who is snooping around your office when you are at lunch or on your day off. Has Jackson seemed to undercut your prices to all of your customers? Maybe he is visiting your office and stealing your mailing list. You can also set up the mini camera outside of your office and have a live feed to see who is coming towards your office door.

5 – Motion detector

If you are caught setting up a mini secret camera outside of your door then you will be in trouble. Not only will your boss think that you have something to hide, but he or she may also be upset that you have seen some form of proprietary information. A mini motion detector can be set up on the floor outside to warn you of approaching bodies or people hovering outside your door. You may have proprietary information on your desk, which you need to hide from guests. This tool means that you will not have to lock your door.

6 – A remote lock

This is a simple electronic lock that can be screwed onto your door on the inside of your office. You may have to install batteries or have it wired up to the mains electricity (if you buy the expensive version). You may then lock and unlock your door from the comfort of your office chair. This is not just a slacker’s dream item, as some professionals cannot have people walking in and seeing paperwork (such as lawyers).

7 – LCD drawing tablet

If you do not need 100% accuracy on the notes and drawings you take then you can buy the cheaper Boogie board LCD drawing tablet. If you wish to keep every pixel that you draw then you will have to buy the more expensive graphical tablets. If you need to write equations, draw schematics and take very specific notes that have drawings attached then you are going to find this tool priceless in increasing your productivity and making your life easier. They are very expensive at the moment, but if simple text and photo images are not enough when you are working and communicating–then this tool will be worth every cent you spend on it.

8 – A programmable digital alarm clock

A good worker should work from a to-do list that has time limits for each task. A digital clock makes it easier to judge time scales when you are working. You must purchase a digital clock that allows you to program several alarms into it system. The alarm needs to only beep once to indicate that a certain period of time has passed. Using this tool an office worker can increase productivity and make sure that all of the desired tasks are done on time.

9 – Electronic sensor blinds

Many offices have reflective glass, which is mirrored during the day but see-through during the night. That is why they have created sensors that detect exterior light, and close the blinds when the light drops down below a certain threshold. Using this device–an office owner can be sure that the people outside cannot see in to the office.

10 – A web camera and photographic backgrounds

The background can be poster size if you wish, or you can buy the rolls that are similar to wallpaper. The web camera looks at your with your poster in the background, giving the illusion that you are somewhere other than the office. There are multiple stationary pictures that you can buy, because if you buy things such as sky backdrops or road backdrops, then it will be obvious that the images are fake because the clouds and cars are not moving.
There are photographic wallpapers that you can buy that make it look as if you are in a different room to the one you are in. If you own your own office, you can paper each wall with a different backdrop, so that all you need to do is aim your web cam at it to make it appear as if you are in a different location. It is very good for small entrepreneurs who are running more than one business.
